Ms.
Ciotoli's fifth grade class at Glenwood Elementary in Vestal, New York, successfully
completed Help Homeless Pets, a project for
Mission: Humane.
To
kick off their fund-raising project, the students made posters to hang in school
hallways and classrooms. They also handed out fliers to encourage everyone to
donate supplies. All students who donated wrote their name on a paw print that was used
to decorate the hallways.
The class called their project "Paper Towels for Puppies," and collected 476
items in total, including 323 rolls of paper towels.
And all items were collected in five days!

On May 16, 2007, the class loaded the school bus and headed to the Binghamton
Humane Society. When the bus stopped and it was time to unload the supplies, the
class was greeted by News Channel 34. The television station covered the
students in the "Classroom of the Day" series.
David Gasper, a fifth grader, was interviewed by News Channel 34. He said: "We've been collecting paper
towels, dishwashing liquid, dishwashing soap, gauze, different first aid
supplies, and some other stuff."
Ms. Ciotoli said the television's coverage of the class'
Mission: Humane project highlighted the needs of the community.
Now "others might be inspired to reach out and help homeless pets in our
community." |
