Dear Dr. Kind, My cat is a year old. Can I start giving her real bones to chew?
Dear Elena, Real bones (like chicken or beef) aren't a necessary part of your pet's diet. In fact, they can be harmful. Bones and rawhide chews can cause pets to choke. It's best not to give them to pets of any age. Bones aren't the only things to keep out of pets' reach. Surprisingly, many household items can be hazardous to pet's health. Of course, medicines and chemicals should always be off-limits to Fido and Fluffy. But did you know that chocolate, coffee, aspirin, and onions can be harmful? Even plants like daffodils and lilies can spell danger for pets. Keep curious cats and nosy dogs safe at home. For more info on hazardous household items, click here. Sincerely,
