Get Clean and Green!

It’s spring cleaning time again! Time to clean out those closets and get rid of the dust bunnies hiding under your bed. Just remember—as you clean, think green!
A lot of the cleaners we squirt, spray, squeeze, wipe, and shake around the house contain harsh chemicals. They might make our floors shine, but they can make our environment sick. And a sick environment is not only bad for us, but also for the critters who share our world. Get together with your KIND Club. Make supplies that tackle household chores safely. Here are a few to get you started. Happy cleaning!

Clog Buster
1/2 cup baking soda
1/2 cup lemon juice
Pour the baking soda into a clogged drain. Then pour in the lemon juice. Let it sit for about 15 minutes. Run hot water down the drain for ten seconds.

Friendly Flush
1/4 cup baking soda
1/2 cup borax
toilet brush
Pour the baking soda into the toilet bowl. Scrub with the brush. Next add the borax. Allow the mixture to sit for one hour. Then give a quick scrub and flush!

Squeaky-Clean Window Cleaner
1 quart water
3 tablespoons vinegar
Mix together and fill a clean spray bottle. Spray on and wipe dry with a newspaper
or old T-shirt.

Magic Wood Furniture Polish
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup lemon juice
Combine in a clean jar with a tight lid. Shake well. Rub on furniture with a rag. Now you see Spot’s scratches; now you don’t!

Smile Tile Cleaner
1/2 cup lemon juice
1/2 cup liquid hand soap
2 gallons warm water
Combine the ingredients in a bucket. Spread the mixture over tiles with a sponge. Then scrub away!
