KIND Club Project

Picture Perfect

Who helps the furry, feathered, and scaly members of our communities? The people at animal shelters do! When someone reports a case of cruelty to animals, animal shelters investigate. They teach kids and grownups how to respect wildlife. The bring lost pets and their families back together. And of course, a major part of their job is taking care of−and finding homes for−homeless pets.

Give them a helping hand! Call your local shelter. Offer to make flyers or posters advertising pets up for adoption. Here's how.

Say Woof!
Using a digital camera, take photos of shelter pets up for adoption. While at the shelter, write down helpful information about each animal you photograph. Include the animal's name and approximate age. Include other information as well: Does the animal get along with other animals? Or, would he be better off in a one pet household? Is she very active? Does she need lots of room to run? Does he like kids, or would a family of just adults be better for him? Shelter staff will be able to help you with this information.

Flyer Away
Making your flyer is easy! Have an adult help you save the photos from your camera onto a computer. Then visit our Flyer Maker. Type, "I Need a Forever Home" in the heading section. Then type the information you collected about the animal in the space below. Include the shelter's address and phone number.

Print the flyers and post them around your community. Ask permission to put them in grocery stores, the library, town hall, and veterinarian's offices.
