Some people may think an 11-year-old isn't old enough to volunteer at an animal shelter. Well, I guess they've never met Megan! She's a junior volunteer at the Rhode Island SPCA. Every Saturday Megan arrives at the RISPCA ready to help. She walks the dogs and plays with the cats. Megan also prepares toys for the shelter residents: catnip toys for the kitties, and stuffed kongs for the dogs. She even takes time out to clean the guinea pig and rabbit houses. At the shelter's first car wash fundraisers, Megan helped wash 52 cars, raising $280 for the shelter's animals. Not surprisingly, Megan was chosen as the RISPCA Kid of the Year. "My favorite part about volunteering is making the animals feel loved by playing them," she says. "They need a lot of love and attention!" |
